Small-scale DAB trial promises a local radio revolution

Picture
Ofcom has published its final report for Government on trials of 'small-scale DAB', an  innovative technology designed to allow stations to achieve transmission on a digital radio platform.
Ofcom has been testing small-scale DAB since June 2015, with more than 70 stations broadcasting on trial licences at 10 locations around the UK. Niocast Digital is the small-scale DAB provider for Manchester.
Ofcom has identified space in the airwaves that would support a UK-wide roll out of the technology, using spectrum bands previously occupied by business radio.  Re-using these bands could pave the way for hundreds more stations to join digital radio across the UK
